Tradition and innovation let wheels run smoothly
At BORBET everything revolves around the wheel. The family business that’s been engaged in metal casting since its establishment in 1881, is today one of the leading aluminium wheel manufacturers in the world with seven national and international production sites and an excellent position on the market. The main plant of the traditional business has been operating in Hallenberg-Hesborn in the Hochsauerland region since 1962.
This is where the aluminium wheels are mass-produced in 2,000 variations. The BORBET Group includes the companies Austria Alu-Guss-Gesellschaft mbH, Ranshofen (Austria), Kronprinz Aluguss GmbH, Solingen, BORBET Thüringen GmbH, Bad Langensalza, BORBET S. A. (Pty) Ltd., Port Elizabeth (South Africa), SRF S. A., Soultzmatt (France) and CW Fahrzeugtechnik Vertriebs GmbH, Niederneuching.
The Borbet group employs around 2800 workers throughout the world and produces around 12 million wheels annually. And yet Peter Wilhelm Borbet purposely avoids jumping on the “down-market product” bandwagon. “Our corporate philosophy is to continue to promote Germany as an industrial location, and not to outsource production to low-wage countries,” stresses Borbet. Nevertheless, cost reduction is an important aspect for the profitability of the company, which at BORBET is achieved by automating production. “At BORBET robots cast the aluminium alloy wheels and our employees take care of the fine details, such as x-raying, polishing or centring the wheel,” Peter Wilhelm Borbet describes the typical sequence of steps leading to the finished wheel.
Ninety percent of the wheels produced go directly to the automobile manufacturers (OEM) around the world and the remaining 10 percent are wheels destined for retail.
Upshot: At BORBET everything runs smoothly!
The BORBET Group
Casting with tradition.
The Borbet family became engaged in metal casting as early as 1881. Back then only brass was processed. In 1928, BORBET expanded its production program to include the casting of aluminium parts. During those years, aluminium casting gained more and more in importance. Due to the multiple advantageous technical properties of aluminium, this material will also continue to gain importance in the future. In 1962 the current company director, Peter Wilhelm Borbet, began production with just five employees in a newly constructed plant in Hesborn in the Hochsauerland region. This is where sand cast and low-pressure die cast parts were produced for the various branches of industry.
The continuous upward development was accelerated by the inclusion of light alloy wheels for cars and trucks in the production program.
Today the BORBET Group supplies the entire German automobile industry with light alloy wheels, and successfully markets its own product range for retail.
The BORBET Group has its main plant in Hallenberg-Hesborn and since 1998 another plant in Medebach in the Hochsauerland region. Subsidiaries of the group are the companies Austria Alu-Guss-Gesellschaft m.b.H. in Ranshofen (Austria), Kronprinz Aluguss GmbH in Solingen, BORBET Thüringen GmbH in Bad Langensalza, BORBET S. A.
