SECONDARY ALUMINIUM

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION OF VEHICLE WHEELS

Reduction of the CO2 footprint through the use of secondary aluminium

Our wheels are safety-relevant components of a vehicle and therefore not only have an aesthetic significance, but also the highest priority in terms of safety and quality. The requirements for this product are extremely demanding and are subject to strict standards and quality controls.

The wheels are cast from the aluminium alloy AlSi7Mg, which is 100% recyclable. We mainly use primary aluminium, but we are also increasingly using secondary aluminium for sustainability reasons. This is either recovered from the production process or purchased as alloy AlSi7Mg from old wheels, although availability is limited.

The use of post-consumer aluminium significantly reduces the carbon footprint of our wheels, as it is less than 1.5 tonnes of CO2 per tonne. In contrast, the average carbon footprint of primary aluminium in Europe is 8.1 tonnes of CO2 per tonne.

Our OEM customers are increasingly demanding secondary aluminium and we also want to make a contribution to reducing the CO2 footprint. To this end, we are involved in various research and development projects with partner companies, universities and institutes.

HOW DO WE DEFINE SECONDARY ALUMINIUM?

SECONDARY ALUMINIUM / RECYCLING MATERIAL

Generic term for post-consumer aluminium and pre-consumer aluminium

BORBET post consumer Almuminium

POST-CONSUMER ALUMINIUM
