BORBET Teilegutachten

CHANGE TO PARTIAL CERTIFICATE FROM 20 June 2025:

What will change? The registration of alloy wheels via new parts certificates (TGA) will no longer be necessary in future. Instead, approvals via the general operating permit (ABE) or parts type approval (TTG) will be required.

For many, this means a major change, but not for BORBET aftermarket customers:
Almost our entire range of rims already has ABE or ECE approvals. These will remain in place and will be updated.
Transition period: Existing TGAs can still be used until 20 June 2028.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARTS CERTIFICATE & ABE

The difference between a parts certificate and an ABE is that an ABE may NOT require TÜV registration (although this depends on the vehicle and the tyre sizes used). If conditions such as "reworking" or similar must be observed, wheels with an ABE must also be registered. In the case of parts certificates, the wheels must always be registered, even if no conditions have to be met.  The advantage of the parts certificate is that it is available much more quickly (especially for new cars) than a complete ABE update.
FAQs

ECE

In contrast to the ABE, the ECE is an international approval that is recognised by many countries worldwide. The approval number for wheels is R124.  With the ECE, the size, width, bolt circle, offset (ET) and hub bore are identical to the original rim from the respective manufacturer. These are prerequisites for approval. Other aspects such as the center cap, wheel load capacity, the wheel mounting on the vehicle and ensuring that all of the manufacturer's brakes fit are not included in the ECE regulation. The ECE requirements in the respective appendix must also always be checked in advance.
COC

COC-DOCUMENTS

The CoC document must be attached to every vehicle that corresponds to the approved type: It must therefore be handed over when a new car is purchased. The manufacturer uses it to prove that the car complies with EU standards, i.e. that it has EU type approval. CoC is the abbreviation for "Certificate of Conformity".

German CoCs usually say "EG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung", in other countries the document is written in the respective national language. (source ADAC)

BORBET TF Felge Audi Q7

Can I drive larger wheels on my vehicle than those specified in the COC documents?

Yes, whether this combination of wheel and tyre requires additional registration by a testing organisation ultimately depends on whether a parts certificate or an ABE (general type approval) exists for it.

What does KBA number stand for?

The KBA number is a number assigned by the Federal Motor Transport Authority to all parts approved for use on German roads. BORBET rims always have a KBA number moulded near the valve hole, visible from the outside.

This ensures that the part is a so-called ‘mass-produced part’, which guarantees TÜV registration even after many years.

It also forms the basis for the ABE (general type approval). Only if this is available is it possible to drive wheels without separate registration by the TÜV.

How do you check the KBA number on wheel wheels?

To check the KBA number of a wheel rim, look for the embossed number on the rim, usually near the valve hole. This number is a crucial factor in ensuring that the rim complies with legal requirements and is approved for road use.

How does offset work?

The offset is the distance between the centre of the wheel and the wheel mounting surface. It determines how far a wheel protrudes inwards or outwards.

Multiflex Set I Mounting Set

The Multiflexset I mounting kit ensures safe and correct mounting of the wheels on the vehicle. It contains wheel bolts or wheel nuts and, if necessary, centring rings to match the rim bore and vehicle. Please refer to the certificate for the exact dimensions, item numbers and tightening torque.
